WELCOME TO SR. ASMA’S GRADE 4A CLASS!!!
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Assalamu Alaikum!
My name is Asma Siddiqui, fourth grade teacher and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to a new year at Islamic Foundation. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child throughout the coming year, which surely promises to bring with it, many new experiences and challenges. In order to make the year a successful one, teamwork and cooperation will be required by all. As your son or daughter’s teacher, it is my goal to help him/her become a confident learner and I will do my best to help make this year a positive experience for your child.
As a teacher, I believe that teaching and learning involve reflection and action. Students often tell me that it was through these reflection opportunities that they came to synthesize and integrate their new skills and knowledge. Hence, this year your child will be taking part in writing journals and engage in numerous self reflection assessments. I believe in connecting students’ learning to something they know or value. Many students learn best when they are able to apply or overlay new concepts onto an already existing cognitive framework or value system. Last but not least, as an educator I strive to instill citizenship within all my students so that they can become good modeled citizens in the world.
This year Inshallah, some activities that will be taking place in the class will be the science fair, two scientists in the school workshops and educational field trips (Ontario Science Centre and Medieval Times). There will also be a monthly newsletter that will be uploaded to the IFS site that will allow parents/guardians to read on some of the skills and concepts covered in each subject for that month.
This terms we will start off with Habitats and Communities in Science, Number Patterns/Whole numbers in Math, Language will include grammar, spelling, various writing forms such as Recount and Report Writing, co-operative games and personal safety in Phys-ed and Ahklaq in Islamic Studies.
I look forward to working in partnership with you throughout the coming year and I am confident that together we can provide the support and encouragement needed to help your child excel. If you would like to meet me to discuss your kid's performance or any other problems that he/she is facing in class, you can feel free to contact me at the school at (416 321-3776). It will be appreciated if you inform me a day in prior to fix the meeting. Apart from this, you can also email me at [email protected] to discuss any concerns you have about your child.
I have included an outline of the routines and expectations for this year. Please read through the information with your child and keep it for future reference.
Thank you,
Sr. Asma (416) 321-3776
