Classroom Expectations and Routines
Expectations for Behaviour in the Classroom
We will constantly emphasize three expectations in our classroom: be responsible, be respectful, and be curious. In addition to these expectations, we will help students learn to become increasingly independent as the year progresses. Students who show independent work habits will be able to be "teaching assistants" for students. They will also have opportunities to use special materials, have the privilege of being line leaders, delivering messages to the office, and so on. Our goal is for ALL students to become independent learners. If a student has difficulty with behaviour, we will ask them to fill out a problem-solving form to come up with a solution to the problem. Severe misbehaviour will need to be handled with more specific consequences. We will let parents know immediately if a student is having severe problems with behaviour at school.
Homework
Homework will be sent home daily starting mid-September, including weekends. The homework will consist of Islamic Studies, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Math and Arabic (varied). They will usually have a maximum of 2 subjects. Homework, in general, should not take more than 1-2 hrs to complete, Insha’Allah. Please allow your children the opportunity and privilege of completing their tasks themselves. If students have difficulty in completing the homework assigned or need assistance then simply write a note in the agenda and I will be glad to assist him/her with their homework if there is time available the next day. However with that said, it’s important for students to attempt to complete their work. All students should be completing their planner regularly and getting it signed by parents if that helps the students stay on track. If there is no homework assigned for that day then continue to read with your child.
Reminders and Routines:
• Generally, each student should take home only the books needed for homework and revision. Students should avoid taking all the books home every day in their binder or bag, especially due to the weight and also due to the fact that some books may be forgotten at home when needed at school. If there are any supplies needed for an assignment or other curriculum related purposes a note will be sent home to parents 1-2 weeks prior.
• If you need to pick up your child before 3:30, you will need to sign them out at the school office.”
Moreover, students have their agenda in which they are to record all their homework from the homework board. If they are absent, any forms, assignments, assessments will be kept in their mailbox in class. Student who is absent must pick up their own work unless discussed with me.
May this be an exciting, rewarding, and prosperous year for our children to learn and develop from!
Jazakum’Allahu Khayrun!

Reminders and Routines:
- Please ensure that your son/daughter eats his/her breakfast properly before he/she comes to school each and every morning as many of the students get hungry quickly and are not able to function to their full potential on an empty stomach. A snack for morning recess and a lunch should be provided daily by you for your son/daughter.
